Nairobi’s matatu culture is in mourning following a tragic accident involving a popular matatu popularly known as “Detat” along Enterprise Road.
The matatu, which was carrying youthful passengers, overturned during the incident, leading to the deaths of seven people and leaving several others injured.
A video that has since surfaced online captures the driver moments before the accident in the company of two slay queens seated inside the cabin.
In the clip, the occupants appear relaxed as they chew miraa while loud music plays in the background, seemingly unaware that tragedy was moments away.
The viral footage has sparked widespread debate online, with many Kenyans criticizing reckless driving and the growing culture of dangerous stunts among some matatu operators.
Others raised concerns over safety standards in Nairobi’s public transport sector, especially among flashy city matatus popularly known as “nganyas.”
