Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has made a shocking admission, claiming that President William Ruto harbors deep animosity towards the Kikuyu community despite them being the primary reason he ascended to power.
For those who do not know, 47 percent of the votes that propelled President William Ruto to State House in 2022 came from the Kikuyu community. Yet according to Duale, who is a close confidant of the President, Ruto hates them passionately.

Duale, who spoke at a function in North Eastern Kenya, stated that Ruto hates Kikuyus because they are hyenas and admitted that the Head of State loves Muslims instead.
“Mt Kenya people are simply hyenas. We are tired of you. No wonder the President hates you and loves Muslims,” Duale declared.
The remarks have ignited a firestorm of criticism across the political divide. Many Kenyans have expressed shock that a senior government official would openly admit to ethnic bias on behalf of the President himself.
Kirinyaga County Governor Anne Waiguru has already condemned Duale’s remarks and termed them as ethnic profiling. She said it was unfortunate to come from one of President William Ruto’s close allies and called for an immediate apology.
Senators have also weighed in on the matter, with Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua warning that such rhetoric could drag the country back to the dark days of 2007 post-election violence. He emphasized that Kikuyus are citizens of this country with every right to live here and coexist peacefully with every other Kenyan.
Garissa Senator Abdul Haji, despite being from the same region as Duale, described the remarks as wrong and cautioned against divisive leadership.
Duale has a history of praising President Ruto’s relationship with the Muslim community. He has previously commended Ruto for supporting the construction of mosques and madrassas, calling him the only leader of a different faith who has participated in building Islamic worship centers more than any other.
He has also expressed gratitude for the establishment of the Waqf Commission, an Islamic endowments body, calling it a fulfillment of Ruto’s promises to the Muslim community. These statements, combined with his current remarks, paint a troubling picture of ethnic and religious favoritism within the highest levels of government.
Duale is yet to issue an apology despite wide condemnation across social media and the Senate. The Health CS remains defiant, and President Ruto has not distanced himself from the remarks. With the 2027 general election looming, political analysts warn that such rhetoric could have dangerous consequences for national unity and stability.
