Former Mathioya MP Francis Njakwe Githiari has been arrested by detectives from the DCI Headquarters’ Land Fraud Investigation Unit (LFIU) over Sh6.4 million land fraud case involving an unsuspecting couple.
According to the DCI, the couple entered into an agreement with Githiari to purchase a parcel of land in Ngong, where a double-storey house was to be constructed.
Githiari acted both as the land seller and the contractor responsible for developing the property.
The total cost of the project, including the land and construction, was agreed at Sh40 million, to be paid in instalments.
The complainants reportedly deposited Sh6.4 million into Githiari’s account as part of the payment.
However, during visits to the construction site, the couple allegedly discovered that the land had ownership disputes, with other parties claiming ownership and pursuing the matter in court.
The revelations prompted the couple to stop making further payments and report the matter to authorities.
Following investigations, detectives reportedly established that Githiari had fraudulently obtained the funds from the complainants.
The case file was forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), which approved charges of obtaining money by false pretences contrary to Section 313 of the Penal Code.
Githiari was arrested at his residence in Karen and is expected to be arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts on May 15, 2026.
