Police in Murang’a County have launched investigations after a 63-year-old man was robbed of KSh 700,000 shortly after withdrawing the money from Equity Bank-Kenol Branch.
According to the police report, the incident happened on Thursday at around 2:30 PM in the Kimololi area.
The man, identified as Wachira, had reportedly withdrawn the money from an open teller at the bank before calling his 25-year-old son, Comfort Gift, to pick him up and take him home on his motorcycle.
However, while the two were travelling home, their motorcycle was allegedly blocked by a Toyota Premio.
Three men reportedly emerged from the vehicle armed with rungus and a knife before ordering Wachira and his son to lie down.
The suspects then took the KSh 700,000 in cash, punctured the motorcycle’s front tyre and fled towards Kenol town.
Police officers visited the scene in Kimololi as well as the bank as part of preliminary investigations and established that Wachira had indeed withdrawn the money from an open teller.
Detectives are now working to establish how the suspects knew about the cash withdrawal and identify and apprehend those behind the robbery.
