Police in Kitui County have launched investigations into the death of a 36-year-old Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) who was found dead inside his rented house at Nzeluni Centre in Mwingi West Sub-County, in what is suspected to be a suicide.
The deceased, identified as Mr. Josphat Kiok, was serving as the Assistant County Commissioner for Nzeluni Division.
According to an Occurrence Book (OB) report, the incident came to light after the Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) for Migwani Sub-County, Ms. Rukia Chitech, raised concern when repeated attempts to reach Mr. Kiok on his mobile phone proved unsuccessful.
Following the alert, the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Nzeluni, accompanied by the Nzeluni Location Chief, Ms. Grace Musanza, proceeded to the administrator’s residence at Nzeluni Centre.
Upon arrival, officers found the house door unlocked from the inside. After gaining entry, they discovered Mr. Kiok’s body inside the house.
Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased may have taken his own life. Police also recovered a suicide note lying on the ground at the scene as investigations commenced.
The scene was later visited by the Deputy County Commissioner for Migwani Sub-County, officers from Nzeluni Police Station, and other government administrators to oversee the processing.
The body was removed to the mortuary, where a postmortem examination will be conducted as police continue with investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
