Nairobi County Senator Edwin Sifuna’s presidential bid has received a significant lift after the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) granted approval for his party, Linda Mwananchi.
In a letter dated Thursday, October 1, Registrar John Lorionkou confirmed that the decision stemmed from a ruling by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT), which had directed the Registrar to reserve the name within seven days.
The name reservation remains valid for 90 days, requiring the faction to complete both the provisional and full formal registration processes within that period ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Pursuant to the judgment in PPDTA/E001/2026 Michael Caroli Omondi & Another vs Registrar of Political Parties and Section 8 of the PPA, your application for the name Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM) has been approved,” the letter stated in part.
“The reservation of the name shall be for a period of not more than 90 days from the date of this letter.”
Sifuna, who serves as the party’s presidential flagbearer, shared the letter accompanied by a brief, pointed caption: “wametii.”
The registration of Linda Mwananchi as a political party deals a considerable setback to President William Ruto’s re-election prospects, given the outfit’s strong appeal—particularly among Kenyan youth, who constitute more than 60 percent of the voting population.
