A family is appealing for financial assistance and medical support after a man was attacked by thieves while walking to work in the early hours of Sunday.
Stephen Otieno Oloo is currently receiving treatment at Westlands Specialist Hospital after he was reportedly attacked by a group of thieves opposite Muthaiga Police Station at around 5am.
According to a post appealing for help, Oloo was walking from Mathare to his workplace, where he works as a watchman.
He allegedly could not afford transport fare and decided to walk to work.
The attackers reportedly stabbed him and threw him onto the tarmac, leaving him with serious spinal injuries.
The family says the assailants only took his phone before fleeing.
The incident was reported at Muthaiga Police Station.
Oloo’s medical expenses have since become a major concern for his family.
According to the appeal, his hospital bill had surpassed KSh200,000 within just three days.
The family is reportedly seeking to transfer him to another facility but claims the current hospital is demanding full settlement of the outstanding bill before allowing the transfer.
The family has also alleged that the facility declined to accept payment through the Social Health Authority (SHA), reportedly questioning the scheme.
The situation has left Oloo’s family desperate for assistance, with Kenyatta National Hospital reportedly having no available space to accommodate him.
His mother has reportedly expressed deep frustration over the situation, saying she would rather have her son taken home than continue watching the family struggle to secure treatment.
The family is now appealing for any financial assistance and is also asking whether another hospital can accommodate Oloo and continue his treatment.
