Standard Media Group Associate Editor Alex Kiprotich has been found safe after being abducted along the Gilgil-Nakuru highway on Tuesday night.
The Standard Group PLC confirmed that Kiprotich was found at around 6:30 am on Wednesday near Masinga Dam after his captors allegedly dumped him in the early hours of the morning.
According to the media company, Kiprotich sought refuge at a nearby home after being abandoned by the abductors.
A local family reportedly took him in and cared for him before a Standard Group team led by Group CEO Chaacha Mwita located him.
The senior editor was said to be safe but understandably shaken following the ordeal.
The Standard Group expressed relief over his safe return and thanked everyone who participated in the overnight search, prayed for him and stood with his family during the anxious hours.
The company also expressed gratitude to the family that opened its doors to Kiprotich after he was dumped.
“The circumstances of Mr Kiprotich’s abduction remain deeply troubling, and we will continue to press for full accountability,” Chaacha Mwita said in the statement.
The media house added that it would share further information as it becomes available.
“For now, we are simply grateful that Alex is safe,” Mwita said.
