Standard Media Group Associate Editor Alex Kiprotich was reportedly accosted by armed men on Tuesday night along the Gilgil-Nakuru Road and abducted.
Standard Group Chief Executive Officer Chaacha Mwita released a statement saying Kiprotich was abducted shortly before 9:20 pm.
The company said it was not aware of the editor’s whereabouts at the time the statement was issued.
A video shared by KTN News on X shows armed and masked men blocking the vehicle in which Kiprotich was travelling.
Passengers in the vehicle could be heard wailing as the men ordered Kiprotich to get out while brandishing what appeared to be AK-47 rifles.
After a brief commotion, the armed men overpowered him and ejected him from the vehicle.
They then bundled him into a Subaru vehicle, which sped off along the busy highway.
Standard Group said Kiprotich had been involved in editorial coverage scrutinising the conduct of the State and expressed concern over what it described as a possible targeted attack.
The company called for his immediate, safe and unconditional release and urged relevant agencies to establish what happened to the senior editor.
“We do not believe this is a coincidence,” the statement said.
