Former CS Moses Kuria has criticized Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku over remarks that appeared to suggest that the Mount Kenya region should be split into East and West instead of voting as a united bloc ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In a message shared on his X account, Kuria urged Ruku to promote unity rather than advancing sentiments that could divide communities in the politically influential region.
Addressing the Cabinet Secretary directly, Kuria said he understood Ruku’s frustrations but warned that creating divisions within the region would be counterproductive.
“Dear my brother CS Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku, I understand your frustration, but it is not a good idea to split the Mountain. We need each other and every vote,” Kuria wrote.
To reinforce his message, Kuria pointed out that every vote in the region matters, regardless of where it comes from.
He noted that Ruku’s Mbeere North Constituency, with about 54,000 registered voters, is just as important as Kamenu Ward in Thika Town, which has approximately 58,000 registered voters and is considered the most populous ward in Kenya.
“We need each other and every vote. Your Mbeere North Constituency, with 54,000 registered voters, is very important for us, just like Kamenu Ward in Thika Town with 58,000 registered voters, the most populous ward in Kenya,” he added.
Kuria concluded his message by appealing for unity and national cohesion, saying political leaders should avoid rhetoric that pits one part of the region against another.
“Tupendane ndugu. Kenya ni yetu sisi sote,” he said.
