The National Police Service has intensified its crackdown on criminal networks involved in mobile phone theft, illegal unlocking, and hacking activities targeting businesses and individuals, especially mobile device financing companies.
In a major breakthrough, officers from Oyugis Police Station in Homa Bay County carried out an intelligence-led operation in Oyugis Township that led to the disruption of a suspected phone theft and hacking syndicate.
According to police reports, the operation was launched following credible information and extensive investigations linking the suspects to a series of illegal activities, including theft of mobile phones, unauthorized flashing and unlocking of devices, and manipulation of mobile systems to defraud businesses by bypassing or disabling payment systems.
During the raid, officers recovered a number of exhibits believed to have been used in the illegal operations. These include 20 mobile phones suspected to have been stolen, a laptop fitted with flashing and hacking software, a CM2 Dongle, and two external hard drives containing additional tools used for device manipulation.
One suspect, believed to be a key member of the syndicate, was arrested at the scene and taken into custody.
Police say he is currently assisting with investigations and is expected to be arraigned in court once inquiries are complete.
