Friends and family members have been left in shock following the sudden death of a man who reportedly collapsed while celebrating the victory of newly elected Ol Kalou MP Sammy Kamau.
The deceased, identified as Gitau Wa Njoroge, was a well-known and passionate supporter of the MP-elect.
He was also Senior ICT Officer – Revenue at the County Government of Nyandarūa,
According to a Facebook post shared by one of his close friends, Gitau had spent many years living in Maai Mahiu with his parents, including his mother, popularly known as “Wa Dau,” before later relocating to Ol Kalou.
His friend described him as a committed supporter of Sammy Kamau and revealed that they had maintained a close friendship despite holding different political views.
Whenever political activities took place in Ol Kalou, Gitau would regularly call or send updates about the situation on the ground.
Following the by-election, Gitau reportedly reached out to his friend in a light-hearted exchange, teasing him over the election results after Sammy Kamau emerged victorious.
The two later spoke on the phone, where Gitau expressed excitement over his preferred candidate’s win.
During the conversation, they agreed that although elections often divide people politically, peace should always come first once the polls are over.
According to reports shared in the Facebook post, Gitau was celebrating the election victory with friends at a local entertainment spot when he suddenly collapsed.
Efforts to assist him were unsuccessful, and he reportedly died shortly afterwards.
The exact cause of his death remains unknown, as a postmortem examination is yet to be conducted.
His sudden passing has left friends and residents mourning, with many expressing disbelief that a man who had been celebrating just hours earlier had lost his life so unexpectedly.
