Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has disclosed that their recent political rally in Kisumu cost approximately Sh3 million, while dismissing claims that it was funded by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking during an interview at a local radio station, Sifuna referenced remarks by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen that opposition leaders are under 24-hour surveillance, and challenged him to present any evidence linking him to financial support from Uhuru.
“You heard Kipchumba Murkomen saying that we, as political leaders, are under 24-hour surveillance. So he must also see me receiving money from Uhuru Kenyatta. Why can’t he show the country evidence of Sifuna and Uhuru exchanging money?” he posed.
Sifuna maintained that their political activities are funded by ordinary Kenyans, pointing to a public fundraising initiative.
“I will show you how our movement has been funded. We have a paybill on our website called Linda Mwananchi. Watu wamejitolea,” he said.
According to the senator, contributions from supporters were sufficient to cater for the rally expenses.
“On average, our budget for Kisumu was Sh3 million. Do I really need Uhuru to give me Sh3 million?” he added.
