A somber mood has engulfed Musikio village in Yongela, Mbitini, as hundreds of mourners gather to bid a final farewell to James Syengo Wambua Jnr, the son of a renowned Kitui businessman, who was brutally murdered earlier this month.
The young entrepreneur, whose father owns the well-known 120 Hardware in Kitui Town, was found dead by the roadside near the Kitui Slaughterhouse, adjacent to Igloos Hotel in Bondeni, on the morning of Saturday, July 12, 2026.
His untimely death has sent shockwaves through the local community, with many struggling to comprehend the circumstances that led to the loss of a young, visionary life.
According to preliminary police reports, Syengo had spent the fateful Friday night at Wave Lounge, a popular entertainment spot in Kitui Town.
He was in the company of his partner, another couple, and eight other friends.
The evening, which started as a social gathering, reportedly took a dark turn when a disagreement broke out between Syengo and his partner inside the venue.
Witnesses and investigators allege that the confrontation escalated and continued outside the establishment shortly before 3:00 AM.
It was only a few hours later that Syengo’s lifeless body was discovered at the scene near the slaughterhouse, triggering an immediate homicide investigation.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have since swung into action, with the victim’s partner emerging as the primary person of interest.
Authorities confirm that she has already recorded a statement with the police and remains in custody as the inquiry continues.
