Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has joined the growing list of tribal miscreants in the broad-based government who have been calling for the political annihilation of the Kikuyu community ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The broad-based government under President William Ruto has unleashed a wave of tribal undertones aimed at ethnic profiling, a move that has alarmed many Kenyans who fear the country may be sliding back to the dark days of ethnic animosity.
Having lost the Mt Kenya region, Ruto and the state machinery have recruited senior government officers to carry out a multifaceted campaign against the larger community, particularly after the government lost the high-stakes Ol Kalou by-election.
The government now wants other Kenyan communities to hate the Kikuyu community so that Ruto can be re-elected in 2027, a task that is already proving to be daunting since without the community’s vote, Ruto risks becoming a one-term president.
The government has unleashed tribal attack dogs like Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi and his Health counterpart Aden Duale to spew vitriol against the Kikuyu community.
On Friday, Mbadi, who spoke in his native Luo dialect, told his community to wake up in 2027 during the presidential election and vote for Ruto to punish the entitled and lazy Kikuyu.
“Luos, if there is an election that we should cast as many ballots as possible without sleeping, it is that of 2027, to elect Ruto with an overwhelming number of votes that we never even cast for Raila. The 2027 election will be for us to express our anger and punish the Kikuyus. Therefore, we should cast our votes with rage. They want to disrespect us when they say their population is higher than that of us Luos,” Mbadi said.
He also aimed at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, referencing his remarks about finding Raila Odinga at State House.
“You hear Gachagua saying that what caused a rift between him and Ruto is that he found Raila at State House. That it is an abomination when a Luo enters State House. How do we Luos look like, that when Gachagua saw Raila, he saw Satan? That is why we must show these Kikuyus that we are also people, and we never applied to be Kenyans. Luos came to Kenya by right; we are in Kenya by birth, and we will live in Kenya, and we can also produce a president,” Mbadi declared.
The remarks have sparked widespread condemnation, with many Kenyans expressing shock that a Cabinet Secretary would openly incite ethnic hatred.
Political analysts have warned that such rhetoric is dangerous and could undermine the country’s stability. The government has not distanced itself from Mbadi’s remarks, raising concerns about the direction of political discourse in the country.
