The United States has issued a travel advisory to its citizens in Kenya over Ebola protests
The advisory came just 24 hours after violent protests rocked Nanyuki Town. The protests were over the planned setup of an American Ebola quarantine facility at Laikipia Airbase.
In an advisory dated June 1, 2026, the US Embassy in Nairobi cautioned that the protests in Laikipia could spread to other major towns, including Nairobi, in the coming days.
The embassy noted that demonstrations in Kenya are often accompanied by a significant police presence, which could lead to traffic disruptions and heightened security concerns.
The US government warned that similar protests may occur in Nanyuki Town and other urban areas, including Nairobi, in the coming days.
The embassy also advised Americans to monitor local media for highway and road conditions before travelling, to keep doors locked and windows rolled up while in a vehicle, and to notify friends and family of their whereabouts and safety.
President Donald Trump’s administration urged American citizens residing in or visiting Kenya to remain vigilant, to avoid crowds, and to closely monitor local media reports for updates on road and highway conditions before travelling.
According to the embassy, protesters could gather in various urban areas, potentially causing disruptions to transport networks, business activities, and public services.
