One of the goons involved in the disruption of a post-budget public participation forum at All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi has claimed that the operation was financed by a sitting Member of Parliament.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, the man alleged that he and others were recruited on Thursday evening and initially informed that they would be disrupting a political meeting associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
According to him, the plan changed the following morning.
“We had been told that the job was to disrupt Gachagua’s meeting,” he said, adding that each participant had been promised Ksh 2,000.
He claimed that those recruited were instructed to secure motorcycles and travel in pairs before assembling in Nairobi’s Central Business District.
However, upon arrival, they were allegedly redirected to All Saints Cathedral, where civil society groups, religious leaders, and members of the public had gathered for discussions on the 2026 national budget.
The man further alleged that plain-clothes police officers embedded within the group took charge of the operation, directing participants on how to move and where to position themselves during the disruption.
He also claimed to have taken part in similar activities in the past, alleging that some politicians regularly hire groups of youths to disrupt meetings and political events.
