The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has issued a strong ultimatum to President William Ruto regarding their possible political alliance ahead of the 2027 general election.
ODM and Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) are reportedly working toward forming a powerful coalition as the next presidential race approaches. However, ODM leaders have made it clear that they will not join any alliance without clear terms.
Speaking on Wednesday in Mombasa during the party’s National Executive Committee meeting, ODM party leader Dr. Oburu Odinga said the party will not enter into a partnership blindly.

Oburu revealed that ODM will be demanding the Deputy President’s position in 2027 — a seat currently held by Prof. Kithure Kindiki.
“There was something that people misinterpreted,” Oburu said. “Some claimed that I said ODM does not want the DP seat, but that is exactly the position we have our eyes on. What I meant is that we do not have a personal issue with Kindiki, but that seat is a public position.”
Oburu also directed sharp criticism at former President Uhuru Kenyatta, accusing him of sidelining ODM despite their past cooperation after the handshake.
“I would like Uhuru, who was the president. He was with my brother after the handshake, yet he did not even give us one Cabinet seat. He lied to us that he would deliver the presidency,” Oburu stated.
“He lied to Raila that he would make him the president, yet the election was stolen right under his nose, and he did nothing. Now we are asking him to let us do what we want as ODM and stop interfering with the party,” he added.
