Comedian and content creator Obinna has reacted to the death of rapper Stoopid Boy, challenging Kenyans to reflect on their role in the struggles faced by the late artist.
Taking to his official Facebook page, Obinna said Kenyans should not simply blame alcohol or depression for Stoopid Boy’s death, arguing that society also failed him when he needed support.
“Yes, we can blame alcohol, we can blame depression, but every Kenyan who knew of him had a role in his demise,” Obinna said.
He accused Kenyans of bullying Stoopid Boy online instead of helping him, while some allegedly used him for content and interviews to gain popularity.
“We bullied him online when he needed help. Used him for content with stupid interviews to gain clout and insult others,” he stated.
Obinna also blamed the broader political and social system, arguing that many young people lack opportunities, mentorship, life skills and meaningful employment.
“Politically we have a system that gives youth no purpose, so they self-destruct with pleasure. Very few jobs, no real education, no life skills, no mentors,” he said.
The comedian further criticised the creative industry for lacking proper structures to support artists when they face difficulties.
“The leaders in the creative industry have no structures to protect artists when they fall. Remuneration system is shit. Guy had a hit song that never helped him,” Obinna stated.
He also took aim at political leaders, saying those elected to represent Kenyans have failed to adequately address the challenges facing young people.
“The leaders we elected don’t really care, either,” he added.
Obinna challenged Kenyans mourning Stoopid Boy online to look inward and consider whether they did anything to support him while he was alive.
“Every one of us has blood on our hands for this one. Yes, you do,” he said
