Rapper Edgar Waititu Odhiambo Ochieng, popularly known as Stoopid Boy, was laid to rest at his mother’s home in Miharaati, Kipipiri, Nyandarua County, following weeks of disagreement over where he should be buried.
His father, George William Ochieng Awili, said dowry demands and Kikuyu cultural rituals prevented him from taking his son’s body to their ancestral home in Alego, Siaya. Speaking during an interview with Dr Castro, Ochieng said Stoopid Boy’s maternal family asked him to pay dowry and follow certain cultural practices before he could bury his son in Siaya, but he declined.
Ochieng said Stoopid Boy had previously told him that he wanted to be buried in Siaya in the event of his death. He also said he did not attend the burial after feeling excluded from the process, claiming he was not given a chance to view his son’s body before it was moved from Chiromo Mortuary.
The burial followed weeks of disagreement between the maternal and paternal families, with a court case filed by the father’s side also delaying the funeral arrangements before it was later withdrawn.
Ochieng said he plans to visit his son’s grave at a later date to pay his respects.
