A 33-year-old Chinese national was arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) after assaulting an immigration officer while attempting to board a flight to Addis Ababa.
According to an OB report, the incident happened on Thursday at around 3:00 PM at Terminal 1C departures.
The suspect, identified as Wang Peng, was scheduled to travel aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight when concerns were raised over his passport, which had reportedly been mutilated after being machine-washed.
As immigration officer Danford Mwanzia attempted to explain the required procedure to Peng, the passenger allegedly became violent and assaulted him.
Mwanzia reportedly sustained injuries to the back of his head after being struck several times.
Police officers at JKIA were called in and arrested Peng following the incident.
The suspect was taken to JKIA Police Station as investigations into the alleged assault and the circumstances surrounding the damaged passport continue.
