Fresh details continue to emerge surrounding the tragic death of Murang’a University student Constance Githinji, who died at an Airbnb in Kileleshwa over the weekend.
According to preliminary police findings, Connie—as she was popularly known—had gone to the apartment in the company of a man identified as Tony Odhiambo. Reports indicate that the two had met through a dating platform before arranging to meet physically.

In Nairobi’s urban slang, men like Tony are often described as “wash wash”—a term used to refer to individuals whose sources of wealth are unclear. They are known for flashy lifestyles, expensive cars, and generous spending, yet they rarely offer a clear explanation of what they actually do for a living.
Such men are increasingly visible on dating platforms, where they present themselves as wealthy and influential. It is believed that this is how Connie and Tony connected before agreeing to meet at a short-stay apartment in Kileleshwa.
Sources suggest that these kinds of meetups are often transactional in nature, sometimes involving financial “tokens” in exchange for companionship. In this case, it is alleged that a significant amount of money had been agreed upon for the night.
However, what was meant to be a private encounter turned into a tragedy.
Connie reportedly fell from the sixth floor of the apartment in the early hours of the morning, an incident that has since sparked widespread debate and concern.
Tony Odhiambo was later arrested and detained at Kileleshwa Police Station. In his statement to detectives, he claimed that Connie jumped from the window after expressing signs of stress earlier.
But her family strongly disputes this account.
Speaking outside Kibera Law Courts, Connie’s mother dismissed claims that her daughter was under any form of distress.
“There is no way she could have done that as alleged. We want the police to investigate this matter and tell us the truth,” she said, as the family demanded justice.
CCTV footage obtained from the apartment complex has helped piece together parts of her final moments. The recordings show Connie arriving at the lift lobby at around 4:11 a.m., before being joined by a man believed to be Tony at approximately 4:17 a.m.
A security guard assisted them in accessing a key box, after which they proceeded to their room on the sixth floor.
Moments later, at around 4:32 a.m., there were signs of movement and possible disturbance inside the apartment. The guard briefly checked in at about 4:34 a.m., then left, only to return around 4:46 a.m.
That window of time has now become the most critical part of the investigation.
It is believed that Connie was last seen alive around this period, before the fatal fall.
To date, investigators are yet to establish exactly what happened inside the room during those missing minutes. Authorities continue to analyse CCTV footage, witness accounts, and forensic evidence to determine whether her death was a case of suicide or something more sinister.
