The son of the late former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, has thrown his weight behind President William Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027.
Speaking on Tuesday in Kibra, where he accompanied President William Ruto at the launch of a 10-classroom project, Raila Odinga Jnr said he would support the president’s re-election within the framework of a broad-based government.
The broad-based government arrangement was initiated by President Ruto and the late former premier in 2024 to foster national unity following the highly divisive 2022 General Election.
During his address, Odinga Jnr expressed confidence that Kibra residents would stand behind the President. He also emphasised the need to ensure that no child is denied access to education because of poverty.
“We, the people of Kibra, are grateful to you, President Ruto, and we will support you,” he said.
The event, coming six months after Raila Odinga’s death, underscores the delicate and evolving relationship between Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). While some supporters welcomed the message of unity, critics viewed the move as a political betrayal, reflecting growing tensions within party ranks.
