Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a scathing attack on the government’s Social Health Authority (SHA), alleging massive corruption and predicting its imminent collapse.
Speaking during the unveiling of Kiambu DCP Gubernatorial candidate, Gachagua accused President William Ruto’s administration of orchestrating what he described as a scheme to defraud Kenyans through the multibillion-shilling health system.
According to Gachagua, the SHA system, which is reported to cost Sh104 billion, was allegedly procured at only Sh1 billion, with the remaining Sh103 billion purportedly misappropriated.
“William Ruto and his team came up with this monster called SHA to steal from the people of Kenya. The truth is, the system was bought at Sh1 billion, and Sh103 billion is being stolen,” Gachagua claimed.
He further argued that the system was never designed to address the challenges facing the country’s health sector, insisting it is fundamentally flawed and unsustainable.
“SHA cannot work, and it will not work. It will collapse within six months. It was never meant to solve healthcare problems,” he added.
Gachagua’s remarks come as President Ruto and other senior government officials, led by Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, continue to defend the health system, maintaining that it serves the interests of Kenyans and is an improvement on the defunct NHIF.
