Nandi County Senator Samson Cherargei has weighed in on the ongoing debate surrounding the appointment of Calvince Okoth, popularly known as Gaucho, to the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital Board.
Taking to his official X account, the vocal senator called out what he termed as “hypocrisy” among critics who frequently demand inclusivity in government appointments but question qualifications when individuals from humble backgrounds are given opportunities.
“Whenever government appointments are made, many people ask where the mama mbogas, bodaboda riders, or youth are. But when Gaucho is appointed to serve, the same people start questioning his qualifications and credentials. This hypocrisy is nauseating,” Cherargei stated.
The senator urged Gaucho to remain focused and not be discouraged by the criticism, encouraging him to serve Kenyans with dedication and passion.
“To Gaucho, go and serve Kenyans with commitment, zeal, and passion. Don’t be intimidated,” he added.
Gaucho’s appointment has sparked mixed reactions online, with supporters hailing it as a win for grassroots representation, while critics continue to question the criteria used in such public appointments.
Gaucho, who describes himself as the “Ghetto President,” rose to fame due to his staunch support for veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga.
