Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed why he has stayed away from helicopters ever since his impeachment back in October 2024.
Gachagua was kicked out of office after both the National Assembly and the Senate found him guilty of gross misconduct. He was sent home to Wamunyoro, and in his place, Professor Kithure Kindiki was sworn in as the new second in command.
According to Gachagua, his impeachment was bankrolled by none other than President William Ruto. He claims that the president paid MPs and senators up to Sh50 million each just to get them to sign off on sending him home.
But since his removal, Gachagua has become a constant headache for the Ruto administration. He has been spilling the beans on top government secrets, including how senior officials have been stealing public funds and resources.
He is now seen as public enemy number one by the so-called broad-based government. And on Monday, he made a shocking admission about why he avoids helicopters like the plague.
Speaking during the launch of Kiambu gubernatorial candidate John Mwaura of the Democracy of Citizens Party, Gachagua did not hold back. He said he no longer uses choppers because he genuinely fears that President William Ruto, whom he has nicknamed Kasongo, could have him killed.
In his own words, “Mimi nikiingia helicopter, si Kasongo atanileta chini.”That means, the moment he steps into a helicopter, he believes Kasongo would bring him down.
He made it clear that from now on, he will only use road transport for his local campaigns. However, he is comfortable flying on planes for international travel. In fact, he plans to fly to London soon to promote the united opposition and his DCP party to Kenyans living abroad.
