Tensions in Homa Bay County have intensified after Governor Gladys Wanga openly challenged her critics—among them her own deputy, Oyugi Magwanga—to resign if they are unwilling to support her leadership.
Addressing residents during a public rally, Governor Wanga declared that any county official working under her administration yet openly criticising it had no moral standing to continue holding office. She stressed that loyalty and discipline were essential qualities for anyone serving in her government.
“One cannot be part of a government and at the same time speak ill of it. Rising to lead an administration is not easy,” Wanga stated.
The governor, reflecting on her political journey, reminded her audience of the sacrifices she made to win the county’s top seat. She noted that her campaign had taken her across every corner of Homa Bay and required significant personal resources.
“I used my own means to win this governorship. Therefore, anyone employed in this government must follow the regulations guiding their role,” she affirmed.
Wanga further warned that she would no longer accommodate internal dissent. Any official unwilling to work harmoniously with her team, she said, would be compelled to step aside.
“From now on, I will be firm. Anyone who does not want to serve under this administration will have to resign, and their positions will be given to others,” she added.
Her remarks come amid a widening rift with Deputy Governor Oyugi Magwanga, who recently angered ODM loyalists by campaigning for Independent Kasipul parliamentary candidate Philip Aroko. This directly contradicted Governor Wanga’s efforts to rally support behind the ODM flagbearer, Boyd Were.
The fallout has deepened political divisions in the county, raising questions about the stability of Wanga’s administration as the Kasipul race continues to stir controversy.
