Police officers from Lumakanda Police Station have intercepted a public service vehicle (PSV) along the Webuye-Eldoret Highway and arrested a passenger allegedly transporting cannabis sativa with an estimated street value of KSh 3 million.
According to police, the operation was launched after officers received intelligence about suspected drug trafficking along the busy highway.
Acting on the tip-off, the officers mounted a strategic roadblock at Lumakanda Junction, where they intercepted the matatu suspected of ferrying the illicit consignment.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of two green sacks containing approximately 100 kilograms of cannabis sativa, which police say was in the possession of a passenger identified as Kelvin Onyango.
The suspect was immediately arrested and taken to Lumakanda Police Station, where he is being processed ahead of his arraignment in court.
The recovered narcotics have been detained as exhibits as detectives continue with investigations aimed at establishing the source and intended destination of the consignment, as well as identifying any accomplices involved in the trafficking network.
Police have reaffirmed their commitment to dismantling drug trafficking syndicates and urged members of the public to continue providing information that can help curb the illegal trade.
