Detectives have uncovered what is believed to be the operational hideout of a suspected criminal gang in Huruma, Eldoret, barely 24 hours after four suspected gang members were fatally shot during a police operation along the Eldoret-Kiplombe-Soy Road.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), detectives from DCI Soy raided a house in the Sungura area after acting on credible intelligence.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the house served as the gang’s operational base, where members are believed to have planned and coordinated their criminal activities.
A thorough search of the premises led to the recovery of several items believed to be linked to the gang’s operations.
Among the exhibits recovered were five Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) jungle jackets, a heavy wedge hammer, a crowbar, two mobile phones, and other items that are now undergoing forensic examination.
The recovery of the military-style jungle jackets has added a crucial lead to investigations into a criminal network suspected of masquerading as police officers and military personnel to carry out violent robberies across the Rift Valley region.
Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) detectives processed and documented the scene, securing all recovered exhibits for forensic analysis as investigators work to establish possible links to previous crimes.
The latest development comes a day after detectives fatally shot four suspected gang members during an operation along the Eldoret-Kiplombe-Soy Road. Authorities believe the gang was behind a series of violent robberies that had left residents living in fear.
Investigators have since intensified the hunt for other suspected members of the criminal syndicate who remain at large as efforts continue to dismantle the network.
The DCI thanked members of the public for providing vital information that led to the operation and urged Kenyans to continue sharing intelligence with law enforcement agencies to help fight crime and enhance public safety.
