A senior Kenya Prisons Service officer has been found dead inside his vehicle in an open field behind Spur Mall in Kiambu County.
According to a police report filed at Mugutha Police Station, officers were alerted after a male person was reportedly found unconscious inside a motor vehicle parked at the location.
Police officers who responded to the scene found the man seated and leaning backwards in the driver’s seat of a silver Nissan Wingroad, registration number KCZ 103Q.
The driver’s door was reportedly open, while the man was unresponsive.
During the processing and documentation of the scene, the deceased was identified as Eric Kiarie, aged 40, and a Senior Superintendent of Prisons (SSP) attached to the Kenya Prisons Service Central Region Headquarters in Nyeri.
Police said Kiarie’s Certificate of Appointment, driving licence and passport were recovered from inside the vehicle.
A bag containing clothes and shoes, believed to be his personal effects, was also found at the scene.
Bystanders reportedly told police that Kiarie was a regular visitor to the area where he was found.
Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers from Juja processed and documented the scene before the body was removed from the vehicle.
The remains were subsequently transferred to the Kenyatta University Referral Hospital Mortuary, where they were preserved pending a post-mortem examination.
The autopsy is expected to help establish the cause and circumstances of the officer’s death, as investigations continue.
