New and startling details have emerged regarding the man who breached President William Ruto’s security during a public function in Kilifi County on Sunday, and what has been uncovered has left many Kenyans with far more questions than answers.
The breach occurred during a Thanksgiving gathering in Ganze, where Ruto had taken to the podium to address members of the public at a ceremony held in honour of Youth Affairs Principal Secretary Fikirini Jacobs.
Without warning, a young man slipped past the security cordon and approached the President while he was mid-address, causing a moment of visible confusion on stage. Ruto was forced to abruptly pause his remarks as members of his security detail rushed in to restrain the intruder and escort him away.
Despite the tension of the moment, Ruto displayed a composed and merciful side, urging his officers not to rough the young man up.
“Leave that young man alone,” the President said as officers led him away.
Shortly after, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja stepped forward to announce the immediate formation of a special investigations team to conduct a comprehensive probe into how the breach occurred. He also confirmed an immediate restructuring of the presidential security detail, saying it was aimed at strengthening operational protocols and sealing any vulnerabilities that had been exposed.
“The security of the head of state is a matter of national security and will be treated with the utmost seriousness,” Kanja stated.
However, while the government continued to run its carefully managed script, social media forensics told a very different story. Kenyans online dug into past photos and videos of presidential functions and made a discovery that stopped many in their tracks. The man who breached Ruto’s security was not an outsider or a random member of the public. He is, in fact, a well-known figure in the presidential security circle, photographed on multiple occasions accompanying the president at public functions.
