Former Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto has raised the alarm over fraudsters who are taking advantage of the death of his sister, Ann Chebochok, to solicit money from unsuspecting members of the public.
In a statement shared on his Facebook page, Rutto warned that some individuals are conducting unauthorized fundraising campaigns in the family’s name through social media and other platforms.
He clarified that the family has not authorized any individual or group to collect financial contributions on its behalf outside the official family arrangements.
According to Rutto, the family is using only one official WhatsApp group to coordinate support, and all financial contributions should be channeled through the family’s designated coordinator.
“We have noted with great concern that some individuals are taking advantage of the passing of our beloved sister, Ann Chebochok, to solicit financial contributions through social media and other platforms in the name of the family,” Rutto said.
He urged members of the public to ignore any fundraising appeals claiming to represent the family unless they originate from the officially recognized channels, warning that such requests are fraudulent.
Rutto also thanked Kenyans for the overwhelming prayers, messages of encouragement, and support they have extended to the family during the difficult period.
He appealed to the public to remain vigilant and help prevent fraudsters from exploiting the family’s loss for personal gain.
