Fresh details have emerged in the murder investigation of gospel artist Rachel Wandeto, the woman who suffered severe burns after being attacked in Mwiki, Kasarani.
A suspect arrested in connection with the killing has been identified as Josiah Njeru Njiri, who is said to have been Wandeto’s regular taxi driver.
According to police sources quoted in the latest reports, investigators are now focusing on money as a possible motive, with claims that the suspect may have believed Wandeto had received cash from places she had recently visited, including State House.
The political tattoo angle that initially dominated public discussion is reportedly no longer being treated as the primary motive.
Detectives are also investigating claims of personal grudges and a possible relationship or love-triangle angle involving the suspect.
Njiri was arrested in Kasarani by detectives from the DCI homicide unit, with DCI Director Mohamed Amin confirming that he will be arraigned as police seek custodial orders.
Police are also pursuing additional suspects believed to have participated in the attack.
Wandeto was attacked on May 16 near 11th Street, Obama Road in Mwiki, where she was allegedly assaulted, doused with a flammable substance, and set ablaze.
She later died at Kenyatta National Hospital on May 18 after suffering burns covering approximately 75 percent of her body.
The latest police findings appear to shift the case away from the earlier public narrative that the attack was solely linked to her tattoo of President William Ruto, toward a broader investigation involving money, personal relationships, and possible grudges.
