Kenyan musician Edgar, popularly known as Stoopid Boy, has reportedly died, with initial reports indicating that he took his own life.
Stoopid Boy was widely known for his breakout hit “G Baga Jat”, also referred to as “G Bag Na Jug”, which was released in 2024 and became one of the songs associated with the rapid rise of Arbantone music in Kenya.
The artist also participated in the Christopher Birch riddim challenge, with his entry gaining significant attention online.
The challenge featured other Kenyan artistes, including Maandy, Mejja and YBW Smith.
“G Baga Jat” was later remixed by established and emerging artistes, including Mejja, Breeder LW, Gody Tennor and Spoiler.
Stoopid Boy’s rise to fame came despite challenges in his personal life.
In 2024, he was living in difficult conditions in Riverbank, an informal settlement associated with Gotta City, even as his music continued gaining national attention.
In February 2025, the rapper publicly opened up about his long-standing struggle with alcohol and substance abuse.
He later checked into a rehabilitation programme for three months, saying he wanted to turn his life around.
He also credited comedian Oga Obinna for promising to help him access rehabilitation.
During an interview on Obinna TV, Stoopid Boy spoke about his desire to reform and revealed that he had also been facing personal challenges after his wife left him.
He remained active in the Arbantone scene and was associated with songs including “Gangster Lover”, “Sangwangwa”, “Sherehe”, “Mareka” and “Wacha Masteam”, among others.
His reported death has left fans and fellow artistes mourning the musician who rose from difficult circumstances to become one of the recognizable faces of Kenya’s Arbantone movement.
