Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has issued a sharp warning to ODM activist Oketch Salah over claims that he has been printing party T-shirts bearing President William Ruto’s image.
Speaking on Sunday, February 15, during an ODM rally at Tononoka Grounds in Mombasa, Salah—who describes himself as the “adopted son” of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga—addressed supporters and openly backed ODM leader Oburu Odinga amid growing internal wrangles within the party.
In his remarks, Salah urged Oburu’s negotiating team to ensure that ODM secures the deputy president slot ahead of the 2027 elections.
“We are supporting Oburu Odinga’s leadership, and we want the negotiating team to make sure the deputy president position goes to ODM,” Salah declared.
However, before he could leave the stage, Junet Mohamed strongly cautioned him against mixing ODM branding with President Ruto’s portrait.
Salah, a Migori businessman, has been promoting ODM while also appearing to support Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid — a move that has raised eyebrows within the party.
Junet warned that producing and distributing ODM T-shirts featuring the president’s image was unacceptable and could attract serious consequences.
“Salah, stop this business of making T-shirts for the president and ODM together. Have you heard? Make T-shirts for ODM only, or you will be whipped,” Junet said.
Earlier, the ODM party had already distanced itself from Salah. In a statement released shortly after midnight on Saturday, February 7, the party, through national chairperson Gladys Wanga, clarified that Salah’s political activities were personal and not sanctioned by ODM.
Wanga emphasized that all official party programs must be coordinated through the ODM secretariat under the leadership of Oburu Odinga.
