Concerns are reportedly growing among some elite security officers assigned to presidential duties over alleged delays in the payment of travel and logistical allowances during the President’s tours across the country.
According to a message shared anonymously with blogger Cyprian Nyakundi, an officer said to be attached to the GSU Recce Unit claimed that officers are increasingly being forced to use their own money while accompanying President William Ruto on official trips outside Nairobi.
The officer alleged that in the past, officers deployed outside their duty stations would receive facilitation for accommodation, meals, and other logistical needs whenever the President travelled to counties outside Nairobi.
However, the officer claims the situation has changed, leaving some security personnel struggling financially during extended assignments.
“For example, if the President travels to Meru and stays there for about a week, officers are forced to borrow money to survive while on duty, hoping they will be reimbursed later,” part of the message read.
The officer further appealed for the issue to be highlighted, claiming that the situation is becoming difficult for those tasked with ensuring the President’s security during nationwide tours.
