Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has finally broken his silence following the outcome of the Emurua Dikirr by-election, where Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Vincent Rotich lost to UDA.
In a lengthy statement shared on his X account, Gachagua congratulated Rotich for what he termed as a “splendid performance” that had shaken the political landscape in the South Rift region.
According to Gachagua, the 10,760 votes garnered by the DCP candidate marked a major political breakthrough for the newly formed party in a region long considered a stronghold of President William Ruto.
“A score of 10,760 votes is no mean feat,” Gachagua stated while praising Rotich and his campaign team, especially women supporters whom he claimed campaigned tirelessly at odd hours.
The former DP said the by-election demonstrated that DCP had become a key political force in Rift Valley politics despite being only one year old.
He further claimed that the contest forced President Ruto and his allies into panic mode, accusing them of allegedly dishing out millions of shillings through chiefs, village elders, and Nyumba Kumi operatives in a bid to influence voters.
Gachagua described Vincent Rotich as the “hero of the day” and insisted that the candidate remained a major political figure ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“Watch this space, Vincent Rotich will be the candidate to beat on August 10th, 2027,” he said.
He also hailed the residents of Emurua Dikirr for what he called their independence of mind and courage in exercising their democratic rights despite alleged intimidation.
Gachagua maintained that DCP was emerging as a credible alternative political vehicle for leaders and citizens opposed to what he termed as the “ruling and corrupt elite.”
The former Deputy President added that upon returning from his overseas trip to the United Kingdom, he would personally visit Emurua Dikirr to thank supporters who campaigned for the DCP candidate.
