Samia Suluhu Hiding In Kenya After Shambolic Election

Tanzanian leader Samia Suluhu Hassan has reportedly gone into hiding as protests continue across the country following the disputed election held on October 29, 2025.

Over 700 people are feared dead as Tanzanian police clash with demonstrators demanding Suluhu Hassan’s resignation and a fresh, fair election in which opposition candidates, including Tundu Lissu, are allowed to compete.

The October 29 election was widely described as a one-woman contest, with Suluhu facing only token opposition; other candidates on the presidential ballot were reportedly state-sponsored.

Protests continued on Saturday as demonstrators in the port city of Dar es Salaam defied warnings from the army chief to end the unrest.

Foreign Minister Mahmoud Kombo Thabit described the violence as “a few isolated incidents here and there” and said that “security forces acted swiftly and decisively to address the situation.”

Journalists and human rights groups have found it difficult to verify reports of deaths, with hospitals reportedly refusing to release casualty information.

The protests come even as the Tanzanian Electoral Commission announced on Saturday that Samia Suluhu had won the election with 98 percent of the vote.

As the country continues to descend into anarchy and lawlessness, reports indicate that Suluhu has fled Tanzania and is hiding in Malindi, Kenya.

Regional leaders, including Kenyan President William Ruto and Rwandan President Paul Kagame, have reportedly made frantic calls urging Suluhu to form a coalition government with Tundu Lissu, who is currently imprisoned on widely criticized treason charges.

However, Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is said to be advising Suluhu to remain in power and suppress the demonstrators without compromise.
