Isa Atigo, popularly known as Mavado, a former bodyguard to singer Jose Chameleone and a bouncer at Happy Boyz bar in Kawempe, has reportedly died following a violent family altercation over money and property.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Thursday night at around 11 p.m. in Kawempe, where a dispute within the family escalated into a fatal confrontation.
Sources claim the disagreement was linked to 35 million Ugandan shillings and the management of family land allegedly left behind after the death of their father.
It is alleged that tensions had been building for some time after Mavado reportedly sold a portion of the family land without informing his relatives and kept the proceeds for himself.
The move is said to have angered other family members, who accused him of acting unilaterally in handling the shared inheritance.
The situation reportedly worsened when relatives learned that Mavado was allegedly planning to sell another portion of the land.
A confrontation followed, during which Mavado and his elder brother, identified as Shida Juma, engaged in a heated exchange.
During the altercation, it is alleged that Mavado was stabbed in the chest with a screwdriver, causing severe injuries.
He was rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Sources further claim that Mavado had previously been linked to a local gang known as B13, alongside some of his associates, and had at one point been arrested by police in Kawempe over alleged involvement in nighttime robberies.
However, these claims have not been independently verified by authorities.
Following the incident, the suspect reportedly fled the area and was not present during the deceased’s burial in Luwero.
Police are said to have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killing as the family and community grapple with shock over the tragedy.
